Director of piano tuition
Kevin Matthews - Director - Brighton
I am 37 and have been teaching for about 20 years. I started the Brighton Piano School in 2011. I perform, teach, compose and write and design the numerous piano courses that our piano teachers use.
I achieved my Grade 8 at 11 years old and was awarded the top music scholarship to Lancing College for piano performance. I then studied music at Surrey University.
My piano teachers were some of the best in the country. E.g Tim Arnold: Executive Director at ABRSM, who I studied with for 5 years.
"As a teacher and manager, I look at improving my performance to solve any difficulties. If someone isn't practicing, I look at my performance to improve their experience."
We train all of the teachers within our school with the above philosophy in mind. We want to make sure that you receive the best piano lessons we can provide. As a team we are constantly sharing information between ourselves to spread our communal knowledge.
I have written our piano courses, which you may well be using in your piano lessons and there are further courses in the pipeline. As an independent tuition provider we are focused on delivering you a unique and bespoke service.
I have toured with acts such as 2econd class citizen, The Spoken Herd and The Speakeasy Three. I have performed solo classical piano to thousands of people in some of the best venues in the UK and internationally. I play and teach all styles from Classical to Jazz.
I also compose music for film and television and have done a number of art installations for councils up and down the UK. I am very experienced at producing music on computers and I am nearing the completion of my first album. www.kevinmatthews.co.uk
I am a relaxed and patient person, who has a dedication and love of piano and music. I am very proud to have seen what we've built and am very grateful to everyone, who has played a part in it. I am looking forward to developing more schools, piano courses and providing you with fantastic teachers.
Paul Hunter - Head Teacher of Brighton Piano School
Head Teacher of Brighton Piano School
I run Brighton piano school and teach full time from my home music studio. I am a pianist, band leader, composer and arranger. I achieved my BA in music at the University of Sussex in Brighton where I also received my Masters in composition; writing a symphony in the process.
I am currently the musical director for the Brighton Jazz Orchestra and conductor for the University of Sussex Big Band.
By taking lessons with me you would be getting an enthusiastic and friendly piano teacher. I apply a fun, thoughtful and informative teaching style that aims to inspire independent learning and an appreciation of all styles.
I have been teaching for a long time, maintaining a 100% pass rate in the popular ABRSM examinations but I can also work with you on other goals.
I specialise in classical and jazz. Alongside this I also teach composition, counterpoint, part writing, arrangement and theory.
“Paul is lovely man. I instantly felt comfortable in his company, couple that with his undoubtable ability and you can’t really do much better in terms of finding a piano teacher in Brighton.” - Kevin Matthews – Director - PianolessonsUK
