Alice’s online piano lessons

PLUK, bringing you fantastic piano courses and the best piano teachers.

Who are you?
Hi, I'm Alice, and I specialise in modern music such as soul, jazz, rock and film scores. I play and write for a funk band, performing at festivals and venues such as the Concorde 2. I teach both performance and composition as it's great to understand why you like the sounds you like and how to recreate them yourself!

Where do you teach from?
I teach from my flat in Brighton. For online lessons, I use my tablet to chat to my students and my laptop to find music to send over to make my lessons as efficient as face to face ones.

What are the benefits of teaching piano lessons online?
It's easier for my students to access lessons, and it opens up new possibilities for those with limited mobility. It retains a sense of normality and social interaction for those who want to keep inspired and structured during these unfamiliar times. It's also amazing to develop the musical ear and an understanding of musical language when communicating without having the camera in an aerial view.

Have there been any downsides?
Parents of younger children will need to be present and hands-on to keep them focussed. If a student wishes to write on the music I send, they will have to have a printer. Duets are possible if I send over my recording.

What equipment do you use for your online piano tuition?
I use just a tablet, a music stand and a keyboard. The internet connection has been temperamental when I've tried to add an extra camera.

Many thanks,

Alice
