James’s online piano lessons

PLUK, bringing you the best online piano courses.

Who are you? - My name is James, I am a Music graduate of Falmouth University, a Classically trained pianist at Diploma level and a composer. I have been teaching piano for several years, from students learning grades to students learning for their own personal enjoyment.

Where do you teach the piano from? - I teach in Redland, Bristol, from home and online.

What are the benefits of teaching piano online? - Teaching piano online can be highly beneficial for students. Using two cameras, students are able to view both the piano student and the teacher’s hands from an above camera. This is great for clearly demonstrating playing whilst also talking face to face. Students also have access to a plethora of online resources that I can provide, from sheet music to performance videos for reference. Online lessons also require no travel time for either student or teacher and allow students to learn from the comfort of their own home, and with the familiarity of their own instrument.

What equipment do you use for your online piano tuition? - I have a weighted keyboard that I position my laptop at a side camera view, and a GoPro for an aerial view of my hands. The platforms I use for tuition are, Zoom, Facetime, and Skype usually, but happy to use different platforms to suit students. I also have access to online scores/books that my students are working through.

Would you like to have any other equipment? - I have everything I need.
