Jessica’s online piano lessons

PLUK, bringing you the best online piano courses.

Who are you? - My name is Jess and I am a part-time teacher for PLUK. I graduated from the University of Birmingham with first-class honours in Music and was educated in a number of areas including film music, jazz studies and orchestration. I am currently a master's student of Composition for Film and Television at the University of Bristol and working towards my performance diploma in piano. I also play the alto saxophone and currently I am principal saxophonist in the University of Bristol Symphonic Winds.

Where do you teach the piano from? - I normally teach in person from my flat in Bristol. However, due to the current circumstances I am teaching online from my family home in South Wales.

What are the benefits of teaching piano online? - One of the main benefits for me and my students is that I am able to demonstrate certain things on a separate keyboard to their own. I know that my students find this very useful and it makes the process of demonstrating a particular exercise much quicker and easier.

What equipment do you use for your online piano tuition? - I use my keyboard/piano (of course), a laptop, a pencil and whichever book my student is currently working through (or a PDF copy of their music).

Would you like to have any other equipment? - I think I have everything that I need. The only thing is when the student has a book I don't currently own (I then have to either buy it or try and find a free online copy). But this isn't a huge issue.
